How much pressure do we put on one day of the year to make us feel complete as mothers? Mother's Day brings up a lot of potential for smashed pictures and the odd 'after all I do for you..' conversations! So how do we fulfil the 'needs' of our children whilst also appreciating we are women first and that without self-care and self-nurturing we are unable to bring that love, care and nurturing to people in our lives?
My guests are Laura Lloyd, Michelle Crowe and Jean Grima We uncover how much do we enable dependent behaviour and how often do we teach life skills?
What patterns do we lay in our youth that affects our outcomes later in life? I have two interviews today which give examples and perspectives on the importance of addressing our hurts and experiences when young as they affect so much of our social and emotional outcomes.
My guests are Rachel Andras and Simone Isemann
Listen in as we discuss
Three members of the Stress Less Future Problem Solving team from Mount St Benedict Emily, Nicole and Jess were in the studio with me today - hot on the heals of their win in the USA.
And it is the start of Children Week 2016 this week and the theme is 'Children have the right to reliable information from the media.' I discuss with Nadia Kudiarskyj the ways the media influences and how we can be the influencers. Be the change you want to see in the world!
A triple interview show today - Gus Worland, Professor Jane Pirkis and David Hollier - there is SO much in this show that has the potential to change peoples lives.
In ABC's series Man Up, Gus Worland asks why so many Aussie men are taking their own lives.
What he discovers is a debilitating pattern of men wearing masks to hide their feelings, championing stoicism, self-reliance, not sharing feelings nor expressing emotion. Gus looks squarely in the face of these masks and gently encourages them to be removed. He leads the way by showing how to be a strong man who is sensitive, caring and unafraid to connect with people and how they are and wait for the answer. In short, he can see the importance of being a role model and walking the talk.
My amazing guest today was Ashleigh Bell, another local dynamo, ex vet and now training to the a personal trainer, who is doing amazing things with her life. She brought great insight to the discussion about losing weight having lost close to 60kg and made it about so much more than food. We asked questions about why programs and initiatives to address obesity are not working, why people put the weight back on, lose motivation or perhaps never even start?
My guests in the studio today were Jean Gamble who work in private practice and Trudi-Anne Carmody who works as a hairdresser and has a wealth of experience connecting with clients on any number of issues.
This interview was full of humour about the reality of peri-menopause, menopause and post menopause yet is applicable to anyone who knows, lives, or is a woman of any age :-)
I am so honoured to have hosted this conversation with 2 very experienced workers in the domestic abuse field - Senior Constable Malcolm Baker and Peter Foster.
I hope you develop an understanding of abuse and our responsibility to all be part of the solution.
Mikey Nicholas and Pasquale Vartuli join the conversation at the end of Mens health week. We talk about why we should care with a quick look at some shocking statistics, stereotypes, expectations, menopause and much more!
Jessica Rowe AM is the new ambassador for KYDS Youth Development Service - she is clearly very passionate about her involvement in the organisation as you will be able to tell from the interview.
