They shared their experience of travel and have been to some really exciting places such as China, Europe, Ohio and Rosie is about to head off to Africa. The growing up that happened when they were away from home and without their parents is a valuable life skill and we all felt it would be great for more young people to have access to these opportunities.
Youth week - Olivia W and Rosie covered the Sounds of the Secret Garden event run by Ku-Ring-Gai Council this week and sadly didn't hear any live bands - a good lesson for organisers - you never know who is listening/reviewing and always best to do what you say you are going to do, otherwise you lose the trust of those you are working so hard to put these events on for which was a shame. They ended up having a good time and were impressed with the new Gordon Youth Centre but they didn't hear any music!

This week we spoke to the Mayor of Hornsby Councillor Russel who told us about the West Side Vibe event. Counsellor Russell has been a big advocate for bringing the lanes alive and this event looks set to be an annual event. I actually went to the event before I published this blog and you can find the interviews from the event on the soundcloud page...What a great evening it was. I could only stay till 6pm but long enough for it to get dark and to meet some of the amazing members of our community who embraced the lanes and all they had to offer.
I hope I will get an interview with some of the musicians playing there that night in the studio in weeks to come and perhaps a new series of interviews will flow from some of the wonderful characters I met. Newport Surf Life Saving
Olivia H and Olivia W have both been doing nippers since they were 8, Rosie started just before her bronze and they are now all on patrol with Newport Surf Lifesaving Club!
Through the program they have learnt some amazing life skills... Slow down, breath and think about what you are going to do before you do it. How to do first aid to make sure you offer the floatation device to the person in trouble before you offer yourself as a floatation device...and get sunk! I could not do justice to the interview in what I write here so check out the website and listen to the interview...I suspect we could have spoken for much longer about Surf Life Saving. Distracted Campaign
We talked about the Distracted Campaign to get people to be less distracted by their electronic devices when they are around roads.
Everyone admitted to being guilty of this one and walking along the street reading or being distorted by their phone. But the statistics for road deaths from pedestrians distracted in this way is really high...222 in the Northern Sydney region and 31 occurring in the Hornsby Shire region. Those figures are from 2013 so chances are they would have increased. Worth listening to some of the earlier shows where we talk about mobile phone distraction and how it is being dealt with in other countries...dedicated e-lanes! PCYC Time 4 Kids Lock Up interviews
All the best laid plans.... lesson learnt today - I can't edit my show on one computer and expect the edit to appear on another computer so I have linked to the great interviews here. Please listen to them and share them - The Honourable Paul Fletcher MP and The Honourable Matt Kean MP chatted to us as well as some of the important team members of the PCYC who work so hard behind the scenes and away from the public eye in order to run programs for young people.
Interviews can be found with Nicholas Bepper the Youth Representative, Trevor Bailey and Cindy Clifford, Dan Allars, Paul Fletcher Mp and Matt Kean MP. I was sorry not to be able to play them through the show but they are all on the Stay in the Loop with Lucy Soundcloud. ResourcesThanks to...
With thanks to TripleH fm for the use of their airwaves and studio to make the show, to all my guests and to Glorious Music for the use of their music (Groove Your Foundations and Suave Connections) during my show and in the podcast.
