The stigma around homelessness and Dying to Know Day

8/10/2015

The stigma around being homeless means that there is a large proportion of our society - some of the most vulnerable, who are not accessing vital medical services for fear of judgement.

Chris Clearly from StreetMed Incorporated, Rachel Worsley Medical Reporter for 6Minutes.com.au and 1 discussed what prejudices we have that we sometimes are not aware of and ow we can be the change we want to see.
We also spoke about Dying to Know Day from the Groundswell Project - and were very keen to get the conversation going about how we start the conversation about what someone might want as they die and perhaps take time to consider our own wishes. This will no doubt be the topic for another show as I feel we just scraped the surface.

Great things coming up for you to get involved in...

Please let StreetMed know if you or anyone you know can help with first aid supplies and particularly blood sugar testing strips - StreetMed are always on the look out and it would really support the people whose lives they change. They also need toothbrushes and toothpaste...just in case you can get spare as you do your next shop.

Please consider sending sanitary products to Share the Dignity - they are very expensive for someone who is in a vulnerable position. There are drop off sites around the country and I have attached the link here so you can find one near you.

Don't forget to check out the great events that StreetWork are doing - and perhaps consider joining me on the Chatswood Sleeps Rough Fundraising night on 28th August 2015
