I don't think there is ever a show where I am not blessed with who I have interviewed and today is no different. Once again we had Senior constables Linda Hart and Stefanie Murray and this weeks subject was Cyber abuse and how they address it in both primary and secondary education.
I also had phone interview with 'The Cyber Safety Lady' Leonie Smith and two wonderful young studio guests Annaliese and Oliver to talk about Cyber abuse and Anzac Day. Annaliese and Oliver were also pretty amazing reading the What's on's so I will ensure that is something my guests do more often! |
It seems girls 12-15 years of age are the worst offenders
"we always need to consider how our behaviour affects another person"
"Own the consequences of your choices"
It is against Facebook's T&C for someone under 13 to be on Facebook...apply the same principles as if you were driving in a car without a seat belt. The safeguards are there to protect you till you are emotionally more able to handle the interactions.
I will however make sure you have access to all the sites mentioned in the interview.
Leonie Smith offered some great insights and we are lucky enough to have her back on the show in a couple of weeks... so keep your ears open. Leonie is very clear - parents have to take responsibility for knowing what their children are doing. It is well worth getting her book to know how to implement basic internet safety.
"FREEDOM TO EXPRESS DOES NOT MEAN FREEDOM TO ABUSE"
Parents need to take enormous responsibility for what their children are doing online. Get interested and get involved. Lay the foundations that say "how you behave online should be no different from how you behave face to face".
Truly what we got to was an agreement that war is such a terrifying reality and that we have to strive for more than peace. We have to strive for harmony between people, countries, nations.
