Today you will meet Edwin, a man who has a gentle yet strong demeanour. He arrived in Australia for a Rotary conference only to find himself struck down by a virus that very nearly took his life. If he had not been in Australia, with the medical facilities and experience Edwin is sure he would not have made it. Instead he finds himself here today, his lower legs and hands amputated and his face has been significantly reconstructed. Edwin said he struggled to adapt to such enormous change, his ability, Not being able to return home and settling into his new 'home', needing to rely on help for everything, no longer being a top businessmen.
Through amazing support he found his way to Ability Links part of Settlement Services Australia and Nasrin - their tale is unusual in that Nasrin's job is predominantly working with disability and supporting participants to make links for mental and physical health. Yet in Edwin's case Nasrin had to support Edwin and his wife both settle in Australia and make links to get Edwin the support they both needed to thrive in their new communities. This is not a 'victim of circumstance' story, Edwin sees he has so much to offer the world. Nasrin has an amazing story of her own - I hope you will enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording :-)
My Ability is far greater than my disability
